Last night I went to the Singersroom.com showcase at Crash Mansion in NYC and was heavy in itis mode so for me to be susceptible to your music being a new artist you had to bring it. I wasn't impressed by the first or second acts but when K. Michelle got on stage with her country twang it brought me back to a happy place that is my college days. Biggups to all the NC A&T alum. AGGIE PRIDE!!! Even though I'm not feeling her single "Fakin' it" because it seems like a gimic record to me, how she introduced every song with a story is what really made me listen. She is definitely going to be something big and is on the path to becoming the new queen of Ladies Anthems. Some might label her music "black man bashing" but everything she is talking about it so real. From raising her son on her own, to the haters that never believed she would be where she is now. She is like MJB when she was with KC, Keyshia Cole when she had the 3 toned weave, but has the attitude that Sparkle did when she first came out...like for real you better be careful what you say to her. Everyone fed off her energy, she even called out a couple men in the audience to fall back because it was time for the ladies to rock. She even serenaded my boy Rae Holliday (www.stuffflypeoplelike.com). Peep vid from the show.
I'm definitely feeling her more after seeing her live. The label really needs to stop having all these features just for the sake of features. Missy Elliot, Gucci Mane, Trina, Rick Ross??? Her voice can stand on its own so adding an extra verse of someone that we know that really has no purpose for being on the track in the first place is a huge turn off. Lyrically she's not necessarily the 106&Park type (she's a lot deeper than the teeny bopper tunes) but its obvious they might be dumbing down her hooks and putting these features on there so that she can be. Check out a couple tracks:
